About Us

Just Add Water is Metro Atlanta’s best place to find rare and unusual conifers and Japanese maples.  Located in Conyers, we are a family-owned and operated nursery, open to the public and contractors, just 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta.  Just Add Water carefully chooses cultivars that are both rare and that tolerate Georgia heat and drought.

Ten years since the first conifer landed in our yard, we currently have 1,200 conifer specimens and 125 Japanese maples in our over one acre display garden, a testament to the number of varieties available.  While we do not propagate, Jody travels near and far to find the newest and most interesting plants out there to offer our clients.  All of the pictures you see on the website are of varieties found in our gardens.

Our goal is to educate and intrigue you with the color, structure, and versatility you can have when using conifers in your garden.  Whether large specimens to adorn your home, or a delicate addition to your container or rock garden, there is a conifer perfect for your need.

We are active members of the American Conifer Society, since 2002, and have hosted local get-togethers helping to promote the use of conifers in your garden or landscape. We have met many people we now consider friends and recommend joining the American Conifer Society at http://conifersociety.org.

Jody Karlin

After coming to Atlanta in 1989, Jody Karlin started  Just Add Water, a custom design company specializing in museum style aquariums, turtle habitats, ponds and water art. After buying a home in Conyers, GA in 1997 - the addicted conifer syndrome bug hit.  A quickly growing collection spilled over into our pond designs, and five years later his passion for these trees led to him opening Just Add Water's Rare Plant Nursery.  Jody has visited nurseries both on the West coast and the Southeast, carefully judging which cultivars to bring back to the harsh Georgia environment; the heat, the drought and the unpredictible late spring frosts.
