Acer palmatum 'Ariadne'

This tree grows to about 6 feet tall, with purple, green, white and pink in its leaves.  Named after D. M. Van Gelderen's grandaughter, this bushy cultivar was introduced in 1993.  It handles full sun well and has terrific fall colors.     

 

Acer palmatum 'Beni maiko'

This intensely red cultivar livens up the spring landscape.  Classified as a semi-dwarf, occasionally it can grow up to 23 inches a year.  A multibranched, bushy tree has irregularly shaped leaves.  It's leaves change through the summer, with green replacing much of hte red, though the veins remain scarlet.  The name 'Beni maiko' means "red-haired dancing girl".   

 

Acer palmatum 'Beni shishihenge'

This cultivar has lovely spring color with pinkish orange variegation which it maintains year-round.   It is a slow growing tree, and if not pruned may become twiggy.  It needs part shade and does quite well here in Georgia. We have personally found it to be a better growing tree compared to the whiter 'Butterfly'.   

 

Acer palmatum 'First Ghost'

This upright maple has light yellow-green leaves in Spring.  It is one in the line of Talon Buckholtz's Ghost series.  It is a small to medium sized tree with gold to orange fall color.   

 

Acer palmatum 'Hanami nishiki'

This small leafed dwarf is one of the more rare forms of Japanese maple.  The yellow-green spring leaves may be edged with bronze, turning to green in the summer.  It is a very slow grower, only a few centimeters a year, makig it an ideal container plant.  After many years, the tree can reach a height of six feet with a spread as wide.  Come see our 14 year-old specimen! 

 

Acer palmatum 'Koto No Ito'

This light green linearlobum, a "strap-leaf maple" has thin hair-like leaves with the first flush of Spring.  Its summer leaves are slightly wider, though remaining the same form.  Full sun or part shade will keep this dwarf maple happy.  Check additional pictures for its bright orange-red Fall color. 

 

Acer palmatum 'Kotohime'

This tree has one of the smallest leaves of the Japanese maples, which grow dense and close together.  Leafing-out  red, the foliage evoles into greens and then yellow blended with orange in the fall.  This plants is very popular with bonsai specialists.   

 

Acer palmatum 'Midori noto buki'

This low growing mushroom is a beautiful selection for any garden.  About two feet high, its spread is easily 5-6 feet, though it can be pruned if desired.  It has a medium green in the summer and likes afternoon shade. 

 

Acer palmatum 'Mikawa Yatsubusa'

This unusual dwarf has light green leaves which overlay one another.  A slow grower, its mature height is approximately six feet.  Wonderful yellow and red fall colors. Great for a patio and will live in full sun. 

 

Acer palmatum 'Orange Dream'

This slender tree has lovely yellow leaves edged with red.  Its green bark adds to the beauty it hold.  Plant in full sun or afternoon shade.  Fall color is yellow. 

 

Acer palmatum 'Sango kaku'

This is a MUST have for anyone desiring a Japanese maple.  From its light green leaves in the Spring, to the golden foliage in Fall, it's most spectacular attribute is the red bark which appears in the Winter.  Commonly call the Coral Bark Maple, it grows wonderfully in full sun, will handle afternoon shade, and is easily limbed-up to show the beautiful and graceful structure this tree holds.

 

Acer palmatum 'Villa Taranto'

This linearilobum originates from the area of Italy with the same name.  This cultivar has a reddish color in the spring, with green forming interningled throughout.  It is a vase shaped tree with yellow-gold fall color.  If this tree is grown only in the shade, it will produce only green leaves.     

 

Acer palmatum dissectum 'Orangeola'

An incredible dissected maple - watch every season for a new coloration!  In spring its orange-red leaves lead into a darker molted green for summer.  Its Fall color is red an this elegant mushroom.  The specimen pictured in our garden is about 8 years old, and about three feet high by six feet wide.  Full sun, but ours is in afternoon shade.
